10 Benefits of a Studio Newborn Session with your Bristol Newborn Photographer

If you’re reading this, you’re likely expecting a new little one in 2023. So first off, congratulations! Planning for a baby can be so much fun, and my hope for this blog post is that it also helps to simplify the process for you as you start to prepare for capturing these sweet moments of your new little one! If you’re looking for a Bristol Newborn Photographer, I’d love to work with you and your family! When planning for your newborn session, you may be considering the best place to have your Newborn session with your Bristol newborn photographer. While many families choose to have their session in their home (which I also adore) to have all the comforts of home readily at hand. For some, this might not be the most ideal option. In this case, I would love for you to consider the following 10 reasons why you should consider choosing an in-studio Bristol newborn photography session. You might be surprised as to the many benefits and the ease an in-studio Newborn session can offer!

1. You don’t have to worry about preparing your home for a newborn session.

This is probably the biggest reason why many of my clients prefer a studio session. After having your baby, you need lots of rest and time to recoup. Many Mamas don’t consider when booking their newborn session the inevitable –  all the time and effort that goes into preparing your home before your in-home bristol newborn photography session. Unless you have family and/or friends that are available (and willing) to help prep your home before your session; I would highly recommend opting for an in-studio session to avoid any un-needed stress on the day of your newborn session. I want to make sure we are making your session as stress-free as possible so that you can fully enjoy your newborn session and soak in these beautiful memories that you are making with your new family!

2. A studio session allows the new bond of your family to be the focus of the session.

With the clean and elegant aesthetic of a studio environment, this really helps to put the focus of your newborn session on your growing family and the beautiful bond that is forming! I love studio sessions because it reduces the “noise” of any distracting backgrounds that can otherwise occur in other environments. Your eyes are more naturally drawn to take in the beautiful family. You are able to FEEL their sweet bond and the emotion in the moment with a studio newborn session.

3. Your home may not have enough space available for an in-home Bristol newborn Photography session.

Sometimes I have had families that choose an in-studio session because they simply just don’t have the space for an in-home Bristol newborn photography session in their home. Whether that’s because they live in a smaller apartment, or because their home is under renovation. In which case, an in-studio session may be the better option.

How much space is needed for an in-home newborn session? Typically I like to suggest making sure you have 1-2 rooms in your home that we can photograph in. If you are concerned about having enough space in your home but have your heart set on an in-home Bristol newborn session, reach out to me HERE and I am happy to take a peek at your home and offer my opinion on the best option for your family. Otherwise, an in-studio space may be more ideal.

4. You don’t have to lift a finger.

I may have touched on this point a bit already. But this really is a time to sit back, relax, and enjoy making memories with your family. The last thing I want you to do on the day of your session is stress about moving furniture around (yes, I do occasionally do this with some in-home sessions), cleaning your home, or feeling obligated to play hostess. Not that I will allow you to do any of these things for an in-home session, but some of us type-A people feel obligated, and can’t help feeling this way. So if this sounds anything like you, let’s take away that burden and make things as stress-free as possible for you and your family and schedule an in-studio session.

5. There’s no clean-up afterward.

A huge perk of scheduling an in-studio session is that there is ZERO prep or cleanup needed for your Bristol Newborn Photography session. All you have to worry about on the day of your session is showing up and allowing me to capture these beautiful moments of your sweet family and newest little one.

6. You get full access to props for your newborn session.

All of my newborn sessions (whether in-home or in-studio) includes images of your family together as well as styled sets of your newborn (similar to the image above). While I do bring a few props with me to in-home Bristol Newborn Photography sessions based on your preferences we discussed during our planning call. I, unfortunately, cannot bring them all. A huge benefit of a studio Bristol Newborn Photography session is that you have the opportunity to choose from ALL of the props, florals, and other decor I currently have available in the studio to use for your session. Sometimes if baby is doing really well and there is extra time available, we can also add an additional styled setup (if baby is game) which is readily available with an in-studio session.

7. You get full access to my Client Closet on the day of your Newborn session.

After booking your session, part of my pre-session planning process for all my sessions includes a wardrobe consult for moms and babies where we discuss the style of your session and you get to choose if you would like to utilize my Client Closet for your session.  A huge perk of an in-studio session is that you get full access to my client closet on the day of your session. If you should change your mind and decide you want to wear a different dress or add another dress, or wardrobe for baby – everything is readily accessible in my studio to accommodate your needs.

8. Sessions generally tend to be quicker with in-studio newborn sessions.

Another perk of an in-studio newborn session is everything is set up and ready to go on the day of your session. This means we *generally* are able to get through more family portraits and newborn sets much faster than we would with an in-home newborn session. Verses with an in-home session, there is some setting-up and possibly furniture re-arranging that may need to take place before and even during your session which can take some time depending on your home setup.

**Full disclosure here; I say generally because of course – baby is going to be the boss and will generally run the show on the day of your newborn session. So if baby tells us he/she needs their diaper changed, wants to nurse, needs to be burped, or rocked back to sleep – that’s what we are going to have to do. While there are things that Mamas can do prior to the session to help keep baby content so that they are nice and relaxed throughout their newborn session (see details below on my Newborn Session Prep Guide). Babies (as I am sure you know) can be wildly unpredictable.

To help ensure your newborn session runs as smoothly as possible I send all of my newborn Mamas a free copy of my Newborn Session Prep Guide with all of my best tips and tricks to ensure you know how to prepare your new little one and your family for your newborn session. I highly recommend giving it a read to help you prepare for your upcoming Newborn session!

9. Your images will ooze with elegant timelessness.

I love the word timeless to describe my studio newborn sessions because they truly are. As I eluded to earlier, studio images provide a beautiful clean canvas to highlight these beautiful moments of your family. Which is not only appealing to the eye and allows us to take in the beauty of the moment. But this also allows your images to seamlessly fit into any decor or color scheme in your home when choosing wall art or heirloom albums. People move homes, change the color paint on the walls of their nurseries as their babies grow (hard to think about in this moment – I know!). But these beautiful moments will be able to follow you and your family where ever life takes you. As a military Mama, this is SO important to me!

10. You get to fully relax throughout the entire newborn session!

My biggest priority during your Bristol newborn photography portrait session is you, Mama! I want to make sure you and baby are comfortable and can rest at ease knowing that everything is taken care of. In my studio I have everything your family will need readily available during your session; plenty of extra wipes, newborn diapers, burp cloths, bobby pins, extra outfits in case of an accident, hair and makeup by our lovely artist Nicole is available in a separate room of the studio, postpartum care products for Mom, water coffee or tea, and a nice comfy couch for your family to relax comfortably on during your session. So you can rest easy knowing that everything has been well thought out and taken care of on the day of your session.

Hey there, I'm Rachel and I love to capture frame worthy moments for your home

I’m a first-time Mama to this little fella, named Weston (and now second time Mama to our second son, Wyatt)). I love documenting our journey and the motherhood journey of others. It brings my heart SO MUCH joy!
I like to capture it all; warm snuggles, chunky baby leg rolls, big laughs, and also the tears. Because raising little ones isn’t always rainbows and sunshine. I capture the beautiful realness and rawness of the moment. Trust me, Mama you’re going to miss all of this someday.

I offer beautifully styled Milwaukee newborn photography and portrait photography sessions year-round both outdoors – serving Humboldt County, CA and the greater Milwaukee area, in the comforts of your home or in the hospital (for fresh 48-hour newborn sessions), and in my Eureka, CA or Milwaukee studios.

I hope you will continue to follow my journey as I capture my Motherhood journey and the journey of other Humboldt Mamas on Instagram and Facebook.
